Game Notes

-No. 3 Saint John’s held off No. 24 Bethel, 41-33, to claim the Johnnies’ 37th conference title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs.

-SJU junior cornerback Blake Simonson’s interception on 4th-and-9 in Bethel territory with 15 seconds remaining in regulation sealed an eight-point win.

-Bethel senior running back Aaron Ellingson went over the century mark with 115 rushing yards to go along with a receiving touchdown in the game.


Prospect Spotlight

Saint John’s QB Aaron Syverson

-Syverson eclipsed 400 passing yards for the third time in his last five games, completing 32-of-44 passes for 419 yards and five touchdowns.

-He completed passes to eight different receivers in the win.

-The 6-0, 195-pound Colorado State transfer now owns the SJU and MIAC records for pass completions (919), passing yards (12,065), and touchdown passes (139), as well as the SJU marks for completion percentage (.689), passing yards per game (309.4), total offense (12,177 yards) and 300-yard passing games (18).


Looking Ahead

Bethel S Matt Jung

-Redshirt sophomore safety posted a career-best 16 tackles.

-Jung also led the Royals with 169 all-purpose yards, all on kick and punt returns.

-Jung transferred to BU from Division II Minnesota State where he saw no action as a true freshman in 2022.
